Position Summary          

The Inventory Control Warehouse Supervisor is responsible for oversight of operations and logistics for the Warehouse, including supervision of warehouse employees, and performing various tasks in the warehouse and the construction yard, such as: ordering and receiving product for the warehouse; dispatching truck drivers, loading and unloading trucks and assisting customers. This person is also responsible for keeping an accurate inventory, and for maintaining a safe working environment at the Verona, WI location.   

  Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Provides supervision, training and assistance with daily tasks performed in the operation of Warehouse, Delivery System and Construction Yard. 
  • Coordinates and oversees all warehouse logistics.  
  • Assists with and ensures that Company materials are properly handled and stored (such as splitting 50# bags of seed into smaller bags for easier measurements). 
  • Orders products and maintains an accurate inventory. 
  • Receives product and makes necessary paperwork corrections.  
  • Completes appropriate paperwork for materials leaving the warehouse and shipments coming in. 
  • Maintains accurate electronic records and documentation; regularly communicates via email. 
  • Assists drivers in loading and unloading trucks. 
  • Maintains an organized construction yard (such as organizing pallets and extra materials) 
  • Stacks blocks and applies color-coded tags to maintain organization and easy access. 
  • Operates the Bobcat, Forklift and wheeled loader. 
  • Gives direction as needed for additional tasks based on priority levels. 
  • Organize, maintain, purchase, track and repair small equipment used in landscape.  
  • Display honesty and respect at the work site, when working with coworkers, customers, and other Bruce Company employees 
  • Familiarize with the color charts as soon as possible for Brick/Block materials to be of faster and more efficient service to the department and the customers. 
  • Continually improves efficiencies of the warehouse operations to ensure accuracy of data, and exceptional customer service for internal and external customers.  
  • Communicates effectively with Drivers, coworkers, customers, and office staff. 
  • Communicates job progress to immediate Manager on a regular basis 
  • Assists Managers in resolution of issues. 
  • Assists with snow removal during the winter months as business needs dictate. 
  • Follows company safety policies and procedures at all times.  

Supervisory Responsibilities 

  • Provides mentoring, coaching, constructive feedback and training of Warehouse staff members and Truck Drivers. 
  • Fosters a positive team-oriented work environment, resolving issues as they arise.  
  • Oversees productivity staff including time and materials. 
  • Approves time and ensures accuracy of hours for payroll. 
  • Directly supervises IC/Warehouse staff including recommendations for hiring, promotions, transfers, performance review and termination.  

Working Conditions 

  1. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors during all seasons.  
  2. Exposure to outdoor weather conditions, including inclement weather (rain, snow, heat or cold). 
  3. Work is often performed on uneven ground conditions (mud, snow, rocks, etc) 
  4. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Hearing protection is required for duties such as equipment operation that expose the individual to elevated noise levels.  
  5. Duties of this position expose the individual to chemicals and fertilizers  


To perform this job successfully, an individual will demonstrate and perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The ability to effectively communicate and interact, in a positive manner, with all Company personnel, regulatory agencies, consultants and other contractor personnel is also required. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.  

Education, Certification and License: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or similar or equivalent work experience that would usually be obtained with a minimum of 3 years of work required. 
  • Valid driver’s license with good driving record is required; commercial driver’s license (CDL) is preferred.  
  • Forklift certification and/or ability to successfully complete forklift training and safe operation of forklift and other equipment.  


  • A minimum of 3-5 years working in a Warehouse environment is required.  
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct supervisory experience preferred. 
  • Previous experience working in a nursery is required 
  • Previous equipment operating experience (loader, bobcat, forklift or other used in warehouse operations) is required. 

Specific Requirements: 

  • Must have experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office including Outlook and Excel.  
  • Knowledge of inventory and supply chain management.  
  • Knowledge of hand-held tools (shovels, hammers, etc), drills and other electrical tools is necessary to successfully complete the essential duties of the position.  
  • Previous experience and proficient knowledge of ordering and inventory control.   
  • Understanding of safety components of using tools and equipment.  
  • Physical Requirements: 
  • Stands and walks for long periods of time throughout the day. 
  • Squats or kneels and lifts objects from ground occasionally.  
  • Full extension of arms above head and in front of body. 
  • Frequently lifts weight of up to 50 pounds.  
  • Occasionally carries and pushes/pulls weights of up to 50 pounds.  
  • Possesses good balance to work on uneven ground conditions.  
  • Ability to communicate in English; bilingual with ability to communicate in Spanish is helpful. 

Job Specifications 

  • This is a Full-Time Year-Round position (40-55 hours per week).  
  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday from 6:30am to 5:00pm during our peak season (Approximately April to November). Saturday hours as needed.    
  • Hours vary in winter months (Approximately December through March) based on snow removal and winter nursery duties.  
  • Overtime may be required as workload dictates.
